Surah 44: Ad-Dukhan

الدخان

Ayah 1

Ḥā, Meem

حمٓ Ha-meem🔊

Ayah 2

By the clear Book,

وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ Walkitabi almubeen🔊

Ayah 3

Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ Inna anzalnahu fee laylatin mubarakatininna kunna munthireen🔊

Ayah 4

Therein [i.e., on that night] is made distinct every precise matter -

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ Feeha yufraqu kullu amrin hakeem🔊

Ayah 5

[Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger]

أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ Amran min AAindina inna kunnamursileen🔊

Ayah 6

As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing,

رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ Rahmatan min rabbika innahu huwa assameeAAualAAaleem🔊

Ayah 7

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain.

رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ Rabbi assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma in kuntum mooqineen🔊

Ayah 8

There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers.

لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ La ilaha illa huwa yuhyeewayumeetu rabbukum warabbu aba-ikumu al-awwaleen🔊

Ayah 9

But they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ Bal hum fee shakkin yalAAaboon🔊

Ayah 10

Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke

فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ Fartaqib yawma ta/tee assamaobidukhanin mubeen🔊

Ayah 11

Covering the people; this is a painful torment.

يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ Yaghsha annasa hathaAAathabun aleem🔊

Ayah 12

[They will say], “Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers.”

رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ Rabbana ikshif AAanna alAAathabainna mu/minoon🔊

Ayah 13

How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger.

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ Anna lahumu aththikrawaqad jaahum rasoolun mubeen🔊

Ayah 14

Then they turned away from him and said, “[He was] taught [and is] a madman.”

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ Thumma tawallaw AAanhu waqaloomuAAallamun majnoon🔊

Ayah 15

Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief].

إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ Inna kashifoo alAAathabiqaleelan innakum AAa-idoon🔊

Ayah 16

The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution.

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ Yawma nabtishu albatshataalkubra inna muntaqimoon🔊

Ayah 17

And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger [i.e., Moses],

۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ Walaqad fatanna qablahum qawmafirAAawna wajaahum rasoolun kareem🔊

Ayah 18

[Saying], “Render to me the servants of Allāh Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger,”

أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ An addoo ilayya AAibada Allahiinnee lakum rasoolun ameen🔊

Ayah 19

And [saying], “Be not haughty with Allāh. Indeed, I have come to you with clear evidence.

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ Waan la taAAloo AAala Allahiinnee ateekum bisultanin mubeen🔊

Ayah 20

And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me

وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ Wa-innee AAuthtu birabbee warabbikuman tarjumoon🔊

Ayah 21

But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone.”

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ Wa-in lam tu/minoo lee faAAtaziloon🔊

Ayah 22

And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people.

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ FadaAAa rabbahu anna haola-iqawmun mujrimoon🔊

Ayah 23

[Allāh said], “Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued.

فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ Faasri biAAibadee laylan innakummuttabaAAoon🔊

Ayah 24

And leave the sea in stillness Indeed, they are an army to be drowned.”

وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ Watruki albahra rahwaninnahum jundun mughraqoon🔊

Ayah 25

How much they left behind of gardens and springs

كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ Kam tarakoo min jannatin waAAuyoon🔊

Ayah 26

And crops and noble sites

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ WazurooAAin wamaqamin kareem🔊

Ayah 27

And comfort wherein they were amused.

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَ WanaAAmatin kanoo feeha fakiheen🔊

Ayah 28

Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people.

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ Kathalika waawrathnahaqawman akhareen🔊

Ayah 29

And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved.

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ Fama bakat AAalayhimu assamaowal-ardu wama kanoo munthareen🔊

Ayah 30

And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment -

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ Walaqad najjayna banee isra-eelamina alAAathabi almuheen🔊

Ayah 31

From Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors.

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ Min firAAawna innahu kana AAaliyanmina almusrifeen🔊

Ayah 32

And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds.

وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ Walaqadi ikhtarnahum AAalaAAilmin AAala alAAalameen🔊

Ayah 33

And We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial.

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ Waataynahum mina al-ayatima feehi balaon mubeen🔊

Ayah 34

Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying,

إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ Inna haola-i layaqooloon🔊

Ayah 35

“There is not but our first death, and we will not be resurrected.

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ In hiya illa mawtatuna al-oolawama nahnu bimunshareen🔊

Ayah 36

Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful.”

فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ Fa/too bi-aba-ina inkuntum sadiqeen🔊

Ayah 37

Are they better or the people of Tubbaʿ and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals.

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ Ahum khayrun am qawmu tubbaAAin wallatheenamin qablihim ahlaknahum innahum kanoo mujrimeen🔊

Ayah 38

And We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play.

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma laAAibeen🔊

Ayah 39

We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know.

مَا خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ Ma khalaqnahuma illabilhaqqi walakinna aktharahum layaAAlamoon🔊

Ayah 40

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all -

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَـٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ Inna yawma alfasli meeqatuhumajmaAAeen🔊

Ayah 41

The Day when no relation will avail a relation at all, nor will they be helped -

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ Yawma la yughnee mawlan AAan mawlanshay-an wala hum yunsaroon🔊

Ayah 42

Except those [believers] on whom Allāh has mercy. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ Illa man rahima Allahuinnahu huwa alAAazeezu arraheem🔊

Ayah 43

Indeed, the tree of zaqqūm

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ Inna shajarata azzaqqoom🔊

Ayah 44

Is food for the sinful.

طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ TaAAamu al-atheem🔊

Ayah 45

Like murky oil, it boils within bellies

كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ Kalmuhli yaghlee fee albutoon🔊

Ayah 46

Like the boiling of scalding water.

كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ Kaghalyi alhameem🔊

Ayah 47

[It will be commanded], “Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire,

خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ Khuthoohu faAAtiloohu ilasawa-i aljaheem🔊

Ayah 48

Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water.”

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ Thumma subboo fawqa ra/sihi min AAathabialhameem🔊

Ayah 49

[It will be said], “Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble!1

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ Thuq innaka anta alAAazeezu alkareem🔊

Ayah 50

Indeed, this is what you used to dispute.”

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ Inna hatha ma kuntum bihitamtaroon🔊

Ayah 51

Indeed, the righteous will be in a secure place:

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ Inna almuttaqeena fee maqamin ameen🔊

Ayah 52

Within gardens and springs,

فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ Fee jannatin waAAuyoon🔊

Ayah 53

Wearing [garments of] fine silk and brocade, facing each other.

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ Yalbasoona min sundusin wa-istabraqin mutaqabileen🔊

Ayah 54

Thus. And We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ Kathalika wazawwajnahum bihoorinAAeen🔊

Ayah 55

They will call therein for every [kind of] fruit - safe and secure.

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ YadAAoona feeha bikulli fakihatinamineen🔊

Ayah 56

They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of Hellfire

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ La yathooqoona feehaalmawta illa almawtata al-oola wawaqahum AAathabaaljaheem🔊

Ayah 57

As bounty from your Lord. That is what is the great attainment.

فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ Fadlan min rabbika thalikahuwa alfawzu alAAatheem🔊

Ayah 58

And indeed, We have eased it [i.e., the Qur’ān] in your tongue that they might be reminded.

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ Fa-innama yassarnahu bilisanikalaAAallahum yatathakkaroon🔊

Ayah 59

So watch, [O Muḥammad]; indeed, they are watching [for your end].

فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ Fartaqib innahum murtaqiboon🔊
