Surah 69: Al-Haqqah

Ayah 1
The Inevitable Reality -
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ Alhaqqa — 🔊
Ayah 2
What is the Inevitable Reality?
مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ Ma alhaqqa — 🔊
Ayah 3
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ Wama adraka ma alhaqqa — 🔊
Ayah 4
Thamūd and ʿAad denied the Striking Calamity [i.e., the Resurrection].
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۢ بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ Kaththabat thamoodu waAAadun bilqariAAa — 🔊
Ayah 5
So as for Thamūd, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].
فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ Faamma thamoodu faohlikoo bittaghiya — 🔊
Ayah 6
And as for ʿAad, they were destroyed by a screaming violent wind
وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ Waamma AAadun faohlikoo bireehinsarsarin AAatiya — 🔊
Ayah 7
Which He [i.e., Allāh] imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى ٱلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ Sakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalinwathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fataraalqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazunakhlin khawiya — 🔊
Ayah 8
Then do you see of them any remains?
فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٍ Fahal tara lahum min baqiya — 🔊
Ayah 9
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.
وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ Wajaa firAAawnu waman qablahu walmu/tafikatubilkhati-a — 🔊
Ayah 10
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].
فَعَصَوْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً FaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahumakhthatan rabiya — 🔊
Ayah 11
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you [i.e., your ancestors] in the sailing ship1
إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْجَارِيَةِ Inna lamma taghaalmao hamalnakum fee aljariya — 🔊
Ayah 12
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.
لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌ وَٰعِيَةٌ LinajAAalaha lakum tathkiratanwataAAiyaha othunun waAAiya — 🔊
Ayah 13
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ Fa-itha nufikha fee assoorinafkhatun wahida — 🔊
Ayah 14
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow [i.e., stroke] -
وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَٰحِدَةً Wahumilati al-ardu waljibalufadukkata dakkatan wahida — 🔊
Ayah 15
Then on that Day, the Occurrence [i.e., Resurrection] will occur,
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ Fayawma-ithin waqaAAati alwaqiAAa — 🔊
Ayah 16
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm
وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ Wanshaqqati assamaofahiya yawma-ithin wahiya — 🔊
Ayah 17
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].
وَٱلْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌ Walmalaku AAala arja-ihawayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawma-ithin thamaniya — 🔊
Ayah 18
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed
يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ Yawma-ithin tuAAradoona latakhfa minkum khafiya — 🔊
Ayah 19
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, “Here, read my record!
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ Faamma man ootiya kitabahubiyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyah — 🔊
Ayah 20
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account.”
إِنِّى ظَنَنتُ أَنِّى مُلَـٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ Innee thanantu annee mulaqinhisabiyah — 🔊
Ayah 21
So he will be in a pleasant life -
فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiya — 🔊
Ayah 22
In an elevated garden,
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ Fee jannatin AAaliya — 🔊
Ayah 23
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.
قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ Qutoofuha daniya — 🔊
Ayah 24
[They will be told], “Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past.”
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimaaslaftum fee al-ayyami alkhaliya — 🔊
Ayah 25
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, “Oh, I wish I had not been given my record
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ Waamma man ootiya kitabahubishimalihi fayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oota kitabiyah — 🔊
Ayah 26
And had not known what is my account.
وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ Walam adri ma hisabiyah — 🔊
Ayah 27
I wish it [i.e., my death] had been the decisive one
يَـٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ Ya laytaha kanati alqadiya — 🔊
Ayah 28
My wealth has not availed me.
مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ ۜ Ma aghna AAannee maliyah — 🔊
Ayah 29
Gone from me is my authority.”1
هَلَكَ عَنِّى سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْ Halaka AAannee sultaniyah — 🔊
Ayah 30
[Allāh will say], “Seize him and shackle him.
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ Khuthoohu faghullooh — 🔊
Ayah 31
Then into Hellfire drive him.
ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ Thumma aljaheema sallooh — 🔊
Ayah 32
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him.”
ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ Thumma fee silsilatin tharAAuhasabAAoona thiraAAan faslukooh — 🔊
Ayah 33
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allāh, the Most Great,
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ Innahu kana la yu/minu billahialAAatheem — 🔊
Ayah 34
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ Wala yahuddu AAalataAAami almiskeen — 🔊
Ayah 35
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَـٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌ Falaysa lahu alyawma hahuna hameem — 🔊
Ayah 36
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ Wala taAAamun illamin ghisleen — 🔊
Ayah 37
None will eat it except the sinners.
لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ La ya/kuluhu illa alkhati-oon — 🔊
Ayah 38
So I swear by what you see
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ Fala oqsimu bima tubsiroon — 🔊
Ayah 39
And what you do not see
وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ Wama la tubsiroon — 🔊
Ayah 40
[That] indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the word of a noble Messenger.
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareem — 🔊
Ayah 41
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ Wama huwa biqawli shaAAirinqaleelan ma tu/minoon — 🔊
Ayah 42
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.
وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ Wala biqawli kahinin qaleelanma tathakkaroon — 🔊
Ayah 43
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameen — 🔊
Ayah 44
And if he [i.e., Muḥammad] had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ Walaw taqawwala AAalayna baAAdaal-aqaweel — 🔊
Ayah 45
We would have seized him by the right hand;1
لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ Laakhathna minhu bilyameen — 🔊
Ayah 46
Then We would have cut from him the aorta
ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ Thumma laqataAAna minhualwateen — 🔊
Ayah 47
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَـٰجِزِينَ Fama minkum min ahadin AAanhu hajizeen — 🔊
Ayah 48
And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder for the righteous.
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ Wa-innahu latathkiratun lilmuttaqeen — 🔊
Ayah 49
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.
وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ Wa-inna lanaAAlamu anna minkum mukaththibeen — 🔊
Ayah 50
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ Wa-innahu lahasratun AAala alkafireen — 🔊
Ayah 51
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ Wa-innahu lahaqqu alyaqeen — 🔊
Ayah 52
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ Fasabbih bismi rabbika alAAatheem — 🔊
